About SOCP

SOCP is a Government Industry Organization whose purpose is to address and promote commercial operations through the identification, development, and application of new methods, procedures, and technologies. SOCP’s overall objective is to improve the competitiveness, productivity, efficiency, safety, and environmental responsiveness of U.S. vessel operations. All U.S. based vessel operators and organizations that support vessel operations are eligible to participate in the program. With the support of the Maritime Administration (MARAD), industry, labor, and Government are working together to address common challenges and identify new solutions for improvements in ship operations. This cooperative program allows members to participate in research which would not be economically feasible on an individual basis, or possibly even within a single area of the industry. Information about new technologies, systems, or procedures that would otherwise not exist is made available to all Cooperative members.

SOCP membership provides -

  • The opportunity to conduct high priority ship operations improvement projects at a fraction of the cost of doing them independently.
  • A vehicle by which U.S. shipping companies and other maritime organizations can work together to solve common problems relating to vessel operations. Opportunities to explore new technologies using both industry and Government resources.
  • The strength of a unified voice when making recommendations to State, Federal, and international regulatory organizations.
  • Members a forum to share results of onboard evaluations and opportunities to test new products and equipment.
  • Opportunities to purchase shipboard products, equipment and training materials at discounted prices.
